Are you tired of sitting on the piano bench and playing the same notes over and over again? Do you find practice sessions monotonous and boring? Well, fear not! Miss Fei has some tips and tricks to help you make piano practice more engaging and enjoyable.
Here are some strategies to make your piano practice sessions more fun:
Set Specific Goals: Instead of aimlessly playing through pieces, set specific goals for each practice session. It could be mastering a tricky passage or improving your speed. Set easy goals to start with.
Use Practice Games: Turn practice into a game by challenging yourself to play a piece flawlessly in a certain time limit or by rewarding yourself for reaching a practice milestone. Here, I will give you a few good ones for those who are dozing off at practice bench: 1. Try to spin 20 times and then play the most difficult passage of your music piece 2. Try snakes and ladders, you get to throw the dice every time you finish a piece well 3. Challenge yourself, do the right hand music with left hand, and left hand's with right hand! And those are just few ones, if you like this, ask for more in lesson!
Experiment with Different Styles: Don't limit yourself to playing classical pieces. Try jazz, pop, or even your favorite movie soundtrack. Mixing it up can make practice more enjoyable. Come to lesson bringing new ideas once in a while!
Practice with a Friend: Invite a fellow pianist over for a practice session. Not only will it be more fun, but you can also learn from each other and motivate one another. Hey, make use of this summer break perhaps? Buddy practice !
Record and watch: Don't forget that you are your best teacher. Try recording your playing after you work on the music for a good length of time, and watch your recording with music scores front of you. Check for any wrong notes, passages that need more work and most importantly, check your teacher's remarks on page. Believe it or not, this is the easiest thing to achieve on your own but for some reason, students are just not doing it.... Just read the notes.
So, next time you sit down to practice the piano, remember these strategies and make your practice sessions more enjoyable and productive. Who said practice has to be boring? Piano practicing makes you smarter, it makes you better at finding solutions and better at self assessments. These are just few benefits among many other benefits you will start to experience, if you begin to do it well and fun!
Now, before you go to the piano bench and get more practice, get yourself a piano diary and in this diary you are going to start writing down your daily and weekly goals, and record your minutes/hours of practice. Most importantly, write down questions to bring to lessons!
